What is the COVID-19 enhanced Illness Benefit?

The COVID-19 enhanced Illness Benefit ended on Friday, 30 September 2022. After 30 September 2022, if you are advised to self-isolate due to COVID-19 and have a medical certificate from your GP, you can apply for Illness Benefit.

If you are getting COVID-19 enhanced Illness Benefit for a period before and after 30 September 2022, your payment may reduce or stop from 1 October 2022 based on your PRSI contributions. Standard Illness Benefit rates will apply from the 1 October 2022.

If you are ill for another reason or self-isolating because you are medically vulnerable, you should apply for standard Illness Benefit.

Rate of COVID-19 enhanced Illness Benefit

The maximum personal rate of COVID-19 enhanced Illness Benefit is €350 per week.

If you are married, in a civil partnership or cohabiting, you may get an increase in your payment for your spouse or partner. You may also get an increase in your payment for dependent children.
