Office of the Official Assignee in Bankruptcy

Information

The Office of the Official Assignee in Bankruptcy is concerned with the affairs of people who have been adjudicated bankrupt by Order of the Court.

The Official Assignee

  • realises the assets of a bankrupt
  • discharges the costs, fees and expenses incurred in the bankruptcy together with preferential payments,
  • pays a dividend to the ordinary creditors admitted in the bankruptcy.
  • carries out functions in relation to the affairs of Arranging Debtors and of the Estates of Persons Dying Insolvent.

The Courts Service provides information on bankruptcy on its website. It also publishes a booklet entitled Bankruptcy & the Official Assignee (pdf).
