A housing co-operative is a distinct type of self-help, non-profit housing association in which people on low incomes share responsibility for the management and upkeep of their homes. Members of a housing co-operative must be registered on local authority waiting lists and participate in education and training programmes. Rents are based on the management and maintenance costs and are related to the member/tenants' incomes.
The National Association of Building Co-operatives (NABCo) is the central representative body for housing co-operatives in Ireland.
