Information
Students in Ireland who are taking or repeating the Leaving Certificate must pay examination fees in order to sit the exams. If you or your parent or guardian hold a medical card, you are exempt from these fees.
Rules
The fee must be paid by 29 January 2010. If you have not paid your exam fees on time, you can still pay after 29 January but you will be charged an extra fee per subject (currently €30 per subject for applications received between 30 January and 12 February 2010 inclusive). Applications will not be accepted after 13 February 2010 other than in very exceptional circumstances and on payment of a late fee of €49 per subject.
If you are a student taking the Leaving Certificate in a school setting, you will receive a form from your school. You make the payment through a bank and the bank must stamp the form. You then return the form to the school.
If you are an external student (that is, you are sitting your examinations outside of a school setting), you must get in touch with the Entries Division of the State Examinations Commission. The Commission will send you a pre-printed form with your examination number listed on it. You then pay the appropriate fee into the bank.
Students whose parent or guardian holds a current medical card do not have to pay the fee. In this case, details of the medical card are put on the fee payment form and the parent then sends the form back to the school. If you are exempt from fees because your parents hold a medical card you are still liable for late fees if you apply after the deadline.
